The Pretty Little Dolly
The "Pretty Little Dolly" by Mona Abboud. This is from the Dr. Demento program way before my time. However, I've listened to it so many times and even performed it a few times. It still cracks me up beyond belief. Mp

Madigan: No overhaul, no McCormick Place rescue - Chicago Breaking Business
Sorry, but shouldn't this sort of leadership be coming from our governor and not the lowly speaker of the state house of reps? I don't understand this state. ugh.

Gary Meier gets afternoon slot on WGN - Chicago Breaking Business
I'm a big fan of Chicago talk radio, though not necessarily of Gary Meir. I do know that the Ro Con show on the big 89 WLS has been rather dull and predictable for a while now. Maybe I'll take more advantage of my WGN Radio Ipod App to check out Gary's new show. His sidekicks, if any, will make or break it. Mp

zimbra ... may it rest in peace
I've about given up on this program. It held promise for enabling Yahoo Mail users to download their emails via IMAP to their pc's. Well. Version 2 doesn't work. At all. I've tried everything I can think of, and the program simply won't download my emails except for my inbox. So ... I guess I'll find another solution. Goodbye Zimbra.

third time's a charm
I had to go to my car dealership 2x on Wed and once on Thursday to get my key fob replaced. Well, one of the fob's. It's the one of the two that is barely used, and yet again it's the one with the low battery or that goes defective. I am not sure what happened. Anyway, I needed an oil change also, so I asked them to correct the fob problem as well.
Unfortunately, I did not check the fob's they gave back to me before I left the lot. I later found that they had replaced the wrong one when I went to pick up a friend for lunch and parked the car and turned it off. I went to lock the car remotely while in the condo parking lot, and the fob failed to work at all. GRRR. It appears they had given me back the bad one and simply replaced the good one. What dummies!
So, on the way to the pizza buffet (nummy) I called the dealership and advised them what had happened and that I would be back in within an hour and needed them to again replace the bad fob.
After kicking myself for not checking the fobs this time either, I simply drove home and finished out my day. However on Friday morning when I went out to my car to run an early morning errand, I found that the fob again did not work. I, by this time, am quite irritated. How could they have done this to me 2x: they must have replaced the good fob and given me back the bad one. I went back to the dealership on my way to work, having beforehand warned them them that I was in a bad mood due to their stupidity, so they could replace the fob this third time. The third time's the charm.
Once they were done, I drove out of the service bay and parked in a lot spot. I tested both fobs several times, and they worked just fine. What isn't working fine is my patience with what is supposed to be a professional business. I think, at the least, they need to use common sense. At the most, they need to drill down through their quality control process and see where they are going wrong. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I've had a service issue with this dealer. I keep hoping they'll learn their lesson. I keep hoping for the unlikely, apparently.

Dear Santa Claus ....
"My mommie and daddy said that if I was very good, I could have whatever I wanted for Christmas. Well. I would like a dolly for Christmas. It is a very special Dolly. I saw it advertised on television. In case you don't know which Dolly I mean, I will try to describe it to you...."

I am already inclined not to watch morning news programs. I work 2nd shift so nightly news programs are out anyway. Well now, I'm less inclined to watch in the morning. Blah.

To Zune or not to Zune ... that is the question
I've got to be one of three people on the planet without a classic ipod or ipod touch. A friend of mine has a touch. With all that the ipod touch can do, I want one. But then I think ... I have the Dare phone from Verizon, why can't it do all that. Well we all know that phone carriers block a lot of the functions that their phones ... yeah the phones they themselves sell ... can do. I always have thought that dumb. But I digress.
Now that the Ipod touch is "real" to me, through its being owned by a friend, I wouldn't mind having one. But ... it's an IPOD! I've sworn many times that I would not buy an ipod. And I really do not want one.
Enter the Zune. I've been gettign auto-email alerts on the Zune, and it looks to be quite the nifty little device. It will come in a 32gb version that is a lot less expensive than it's Ipod counterpart. So. I mmore or less decided to get myself one of these cute little devices. It will have all that the ipod has, basically, plus the added bonuses of HD radio and HD video output.
Then along came news that the next iteration of the ipod would have a camera. At first thought that sounds ... cool, but ... most of us have cell phones with a camera. Do we really need one on our zune or ipod? I'm leaning towards ... no.
I'm still leaning towards the Zune. The biggest concern I have, though, now is will it have the same app store idea with the same add on extras that the ipod does? I'm hearing that, yes, it will. But it will take a while to build up so imposing a depositoring of programs such as Apple has. Still ... the price of the new Zune, the HD component, the wifi capability (which the ipod does have as well), and the familiarity that I have already with Zune (I have the first one that came out) all still make me lean towards the Zune. Now the only question left is ... will I have enough money when it comes out for me to actually buy it. Ha.

Traffic School
I'm a repeat offender. Usually if I did it once and got toasted for it and then found myself in a similar situation, I'd not do the same thing wrong. Well. Ugh.
If you live or have ever been in Peoria, you know your way around to some extent. Peoria has within it a small town called Peoria Heights. I do not know the history of Peoria Heights, but it seems to be a community of businessman created quite a long while ago.
Through the heart of Peoria Heights is a popular thoroughfare called Prospect Avenue. This also goes through Peoria. There's a section of this road that changes the speed limit to 25 mph. I know this. However, I was on my way to work one afternoon and wasn't paying particular attention and got pulled over for going 35. I got the ticket. $75. A rip off I know, but it's a bargain, apparently, compared to what it'd have been in the state of WI. Yikes.
Anyway ... long story short, I completed a traffic course yesterday, which cost me another $40. Doing this keeps the ticket from going on my driving record and hopefully from affecting my car insurance rates. Frankly, I am not so worried about my record as that's mostly good but, I am tired of getting ripped off for car insurance.
Well the class was over, and there were some characters in that class. One woman said she'd been ticketed for not stopping at a stop sign. Apparently, there was no stop sign to stop at, but the officer was hearing none of it. Another woman was pulled over for going 90 mph in a much slower zone. Her excuse to the class: she comes from a family of race car drivers. Yeah, I am sure that went over well with the officer. One girl said that she got pulled over for speeding more than five miles past where the officer first spotted her speeding. She got mouthy with him and asked him why he did not pull her over sooner.
The class went over the basics of traffic safety. The instructor was very good and kept everyone engaged and awake and encouraged questions. He even asked everyone for their pet peeves when driving. I had a few.
You know when you come to a four way stop and no one goes. Everyone just sits there? I hate that. I mean if it's your turn, go for pete's sake. The other one I have is when people change lanes in front of me at the last second, going from the far right to the far left and then into a turn lane. What possible reason can a person have for being in the complete opposite lane that they need to be in and waiting til the last possible second to get where they need to be. I am loathe to let people cross in front of me who drive like this. I think that if you wait that long, you should have to miss your spot, go forward and turn around and go back.
In short, people should pay attention when they drive. Yes, this applies to me. If I had been paying attention, I would have been going 25 not 35 and wouldn't have had to fork over all that dough. I could have used all that money on gas, and that would allow me to block dumb dumbs who don't know how to be in the right lane. :)

irritated at yahoo mail
This is a question for any person who uses Yahoo Email.
Does anyone else have this problem....
1. autocomplete doesn't put the person's primary email address first when you type in the person's nickname.
2. problem seems to happen when you have an alternate address for someone in their address book contact
3. if you switch the fieleds--put the "home 1" address in the "home 2" field, and vice versa, you should see the home 2 address listed first by autocomplete when you type in the nickname
4. Now, if you don't use the nicknames option, this issue doesn't ocurr. This begs the issue. What good is the nickname field if, when you type it into an email, Yahoo doesn't pick the first email address you have saved for that person.
I'm frustrated with the lack of logic, here. Phooey on it.

Stupid Taxpayers
I do not know whether to write something pithy and non-scathing but cerebral or ... to write something disgust-emanating and angry.
The muni elections today: I should have voted in them. If you live in Peoria and did not vote, well you should have. Your taxes just got bumped up by a quarter of a percent. That means if you spend $100, you're gonna pay 25 cents more in tax. Now, that doesn't sound like a lot but, fuck, when does it stop? oops, pardon the language. I guess I oped for the angry. Look, when idiot community huggers get together and decide to build a museum, why do they always come to the taxpayers, and why do we always give in to them and give up our dough? If I could start spending my money solely in low tax counties, I would. Cities around Peoria that keep their taxes low .... well, don't be surprised if your revenues go UP because more people are shopping in YOU.
The second issue that bothers me is the election of Galesburg, IL's new Mayor. I have NOTHING against the man who won, Sal Garza. Nothing. I do not know him. But I've read enough to know that he's accomplished little for the city of Galesburg and will likely continue that esteemed record as mayor. Ugh.
Why do we the voters do these stupid things. That's it. I'm moving to .... ????

I Have Found the Lost City, but it's Not Atlantis
... it's called Modesto. It's called America. When I read this story I was outraged. I'm surprised I did not screeeeeeeeam at the top of my lungs. Multiply this one city by tens or hundreds. How do we fix societies like this?

A Day off for Forward Thinking
Well, I took the day off yesterday. I wasn't feeling well. I was asked to come in later in the day if I could, but I just couldn't. I spent the down time thinking ... about the future. What did I conclude? Tune in later today, after work, when I have more time to write.
