The muni elections today: I should have voted in them. If you live in Peoria and did not vote, well you should have. Your taxes just got bumped up by a quarter of a percent. That means if you spend $100, you're gonna pay 25 cents more in tax. Now, that doesn't sound like a lot but, fuck, when does it stop? oops, pardon the language. I guess I oped for the angry. Look, when idiot community huggers get together and decide to build a museum, why do they always come to the taxpayers, and why do we always give in to them and give up our dough? If I could start spending my money solely in low tax counties, I would. Cities around Peoria that keep their taxes low .... well, don't be surprised if your revenues go UP because more people are shopping in YOU.
The second issue that bothers me is the election of Galesburg, IL's new Mayor. I have NOTHING against the man who won, Sal Garza. Nothing. I do not know him. But I've read enough to know that he's accomplished little for the city of Galesburg and will likely continue that esteemed record as mayor. Ugh.
Why do we the voters do these stupid things. That's it. I'm moving to .... ????
Mike, we live in St. Clair county down here where I'm at near St. Louis, but STILL in Illinois. We pay some of the HIGHEST sales tax and the HIGHEST property taxes in the STATE! Actually, we're on a fairly even keel with Chicago. Now you explain to me how a town of roughly 60,000 should pay the same in taxes as a large city of 2.8 million? Furthermore, we have some of the worst roads in the state!
ReplyDeleteOur local government officials are all considered "corrupt" and they are laughed at by the officials from most all other counties in the state, however they CONTINUE to get re-elected, they have been PROVEN corrupt, time and again! So um...yeah. What's your sales tax right now? Our is 8.6% and our Real Estate taxes are roughly 1.8%, some of the highest in the state. :) -Rob-
That sucks for u. This whole state is in more of a shambles than I think we even know. For you to oust the corrupt ones, you'll have to band together and commit to a peaceful revolution!
